Cameron Highlands Hill Resort

This videos about Cameron Highland Bee Farm and Nature people House

Cameron Highlands is regarded as the “Green Bowl”, where supplying its produce of cabbages, tomatoes, carrots, green peppers and lettuce to major cities in Malaysia and Singapore. Other tourist attractions include tea plantations, strawberry farms, rose gardens and waterfalls. Cameron Highlands is the largest and best-known of Malaysian hill resorts. It is located in Pahang, on the Main Range of Peninsular Malaysia, at 1524m above sea level. It is named after William Cameron, a British surveyor in the government, went on an exploration expedition of the mountain range for map-making of the Perak/Pahang border in 1895. He reported a ‘fine plateau shut in by lofty mountains’. However, it was only in the early 1920s, when the bridle path up the mountain was improved. It stimulated the development of a hill station. Much of its appeal lies in the neat sprawling tea plantations which date back to 1929, as well as terraced flower gardens, strawberry farms, orchards and vegetable gardens. Cameron Highlands is well-developed with visitor amenities, tourist attractions, activities and a range of accommodation for a comfortable leisurely holiday in a cool invigorating climate.

What to See and Do

Visitors come up to Cameron Highlands largely for a change of climate and pace so expect activities to be slower and relaxing. Nevertheless, the resort does offer a variety of activities.

The Towns

Cameron Highlands combines a series of little townships which include Ringlet, Tanah Rata [the biggest), Brinchang, Trinkap, Kuala Terla and Kampung Raja. The best tourist amenities are in or around Tanah Rata but Brinchang is catching up fast with a proliferation of apartments and restaurants.

Jungle Walks

There are 14 different trails, some long, some short, for jungle walks, with the steepest leading to Gunung Beremban (1812m). Trails are marked. Keep to the instructions and signages and avoid straying from the path.

Birdwatching

The montane forest of Cameron Highlands is habitat to species such as Long-tailed Broadbill, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Grey-chinned Minivet, and Silver-breasted Broadbill.

Golfing

The 18-hole par-71 layout golf course Cameron Highlands Golf Course at Brinchang is open to the public.

Waterfalls

Robinson Waterfall is accessible from The Gardens on Persiaran Dayang Endah, the path (Path 9 or 9A) from Tanah Rata while Parit Falls is accessible from Path 4 behind The Gardens.

Tea Plantations

Highland tea plantations are a spectacular sight with low neatly-clipped tea bushes covering undulating hills like a green carpet. Tea pickers begin their work on the hills well before sunrise. Tea plantations include Boh Tea Estate, Sungai Palas Estate, Bharat Tea Estate and Blue Valley Tea Estate.

Scenic Tudor Cottages

The Lakehouse Hotel and The Smokehouse Hotel are Tudor-style boutique hotels that offer English cuisine, including cream teas. Other attractions include Cactus Valley, Rose Centres, Butterfly Farms, Strawberry Farms,Vegetable Farms, Honey Bee Farm, Sam Poh Buddhist Temple, and Hindu Temple.

Eating Out

Eating out is an enjoyable experience with a variety of food offered at Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Fine English food is offered at The Lakehouse and Ye Old Smokehouse but many of the local restaurants do serve up a decent English meal, breakfast or afternoon tea at competitive prices. Chinese restaurants are favoured by locals for steamboat, a ‘do-it-yourself’ cook-out where skewers of raw meat, seafood and vegetables are dipped in steaming hot soup. Indian restaurants are plentiful, given the large Indian plantation workers up here. Spicy hearty fare of rice and curries are among the favourite choices. There are also a number of Malay restaurants, Moghul restaurants and a few vegetarian restaurants.

After Dusk

Hotel lounges, pubs, discotheques and karaoke lounges are among nightspots found here.

Shopping

Homemade strawberry jam, highland tea, strawberry, passionfruit, honey pears, guava, honey, fresh and dried flowers and pressed flower bookmarks make great souvenirs to bring back home.

Accommodation

Cameron Highlands is well-provided for by a range of hotels, chalets and colonial bungalows to suit one’s preferences and budget.
