Sport complexWith warm weather all year round, world-class sports complexes and a land that invites all kinds of outdoor sports and recreational activities, is it any wonder that Malaysia is a sports-loving nation? It successfully staged the Kuala Lumpur ’98 -XVI Commonwealth Games, lured Tiger Woods to the prestigious World Cup of Golf ’99 and continues to thrill racing fans every year at The F1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang. Decades ago, Malaysians were world-class champions in badminton. Today, young stars like Nicole David create waves on the world squash scene, mountaineers have conquered Mt Everest and adventurers have trekked up the North Pole and sea lovers have sailed round the world and swam the English Channel. The Government takes a keen interest in developing sports talents, hence the number of public sports facilities found even in towns and villages. Wherever your travel takes you in Malaysia you are never far away from some sports facilities or events. Even in the remotest village, you will find youths engaged in local team games like sepak takraw (wicker ball game), flying giant kites or spinning giant tops. Ask to join them. They’d be delighted!
